These vehicles can exhibit various defects: - the fourth-gear sprocket on the gearbox main shaft can shift axially, since the circlip may slip out of the groove, - a dog on the fourth-gear sprocket on the layshaft may break off in the event of a violent gear-change. The main shaft including the fourth-gear sprocket and the associated clips and washers must be replaced on all vehicles. The fourth-gear sprocket on the layshaft must also be replaced with a modified, reinforced version.

In affected motorcycles, the engagement dogs of certain transmission components may be incorrectly machined, which could cause abnormal wear that eventually results in a broken retaining circlip. If the circlip breaks, the transmission could lock up, which would also cause the rear wheel to lock up during moving. This could lead to loss of control of the motorcycle.

On certain motorcycles, the cables running to the ignition connector located beneath the fuel tank can come into contact with the frame support. In continued use, the ignition cable can become damaged or can be cut through, resulting in a short circuit in the system that may cause the ignition to fail suddenly and cause the engine to cut out.This fault in the motorcycle’s electrical installations may place the rider at risk and cause road traffic accidents.

The motorcycle’s down sensor ensures that the engine cuts out when the motorcycle goes down. In the affected motorcycles, the bolts holding the down sensor may not be properly attached. If the bolts become loose, the down sensor may come out of its bracket, causing the engine to cut out while the motorcycle is being ridden or preventing the engine from cutting out if the motorcycle goes down. If the engine cuts out while the motorcycle is being ridden, or if it fails to stop when the motorcycle goes down, this could be very dangerous and could injure or kill the motorcyclist.

The front master brake cylinder assembly installed on these vehicles had been built with inadequate lubrication on the secondary cup. This could cause too slow return of the piston upon release of the brake and in extreme cases, the piston may not return completely. If this happens, the rear brake light could remain illuminated which could result in an accident, since the rider cannot warn the drivers of other vehicles when reduces the speed of his motorcycle.
