In the vehicles concerned, an area containing insulation material is placed above the diesel particle filter. The diesel particle filter system automatically performs regeneration cycles in order to remove soot deposits from the filter. In this case the diesel particle filter can become so hot that the insulation material can ignite. This is theoretically possible even when the vehicle is parked.Three cases have been reported where insulation material and chassis parts were damaged during diagnosis by Ford dealers.
