In affected vehicles, there might be a malfunction in the intermediate shaft of the Power-Assisted Steering. This may cause a road accident, as the vehicle may be immobilised while being in motion.

The product poses a serious risk of fire since engineering investigations have identified a small percentage of Maverick vehicles that may have missing or dislodged wire seals in the Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) Module connector. This condition could allow contamination to enter the module connector, creating a potential risk for an electrical short. An electrical short might cause an ABS malfunction that would illuminate the ABS warning light, and in extreme cases, the module may overheat resulting in a burning odour, smoke and/or fire.

If the pipe is not replaced it may degrade, resulting in seepage of fuel. In extreme cases the pipe can become detached, resulting in more pronounced fuel seepage.

As a result of this, the belt may jump over the teeth of the camshaft gear, causing contact between the valve and the piston and serious damage to the engine.

Investigations carried out have shown that in the batch of ‘1.6L Duratorq TDCi 110 PS’ engines built into the Ford ‘Focus C-MAX’ vehicles in question, the oil feed holes between the cylinder head and the camshaft bearings may be misaligned, reducing the flow of oil to the camshaft bearings. Over time, this reduced oil flow could cause premature wear of the camshaft bearings and may also result in seizure of the engine without prior warning.

These vehicles pose a risk of injuries because the sound insulation of the engine chamber can overheat and ultimately catch fire.
